Welcome to Year One.

In Year One, we aim to inspire the children to become respectable citizens with an intrinsic value for learning. We strive to teach in a calming environment that is respectful of their views, has their best interests at the centre of it and to build their confidence in every area; including sharing our mistakes, so we can learn from them and develop our brains.

We have already started to make positive relationships within our classroom and this will continue throughout the rest of the year, ensuring that all children feel safe, respected and trust that they are listened to. We also aim to build positive parental relationships as we wish to share your children’s successes and work together to overcome any barriers to their learning (which will become a solid foundation once this is feasible).

We aspire to plan a rich and varied curriculum for the children so they are able to experience lots of new things and in the hope that it will ignite their imaginations and curiosity. We encourage them to ask questions and would like them to have a voice in what they are learning, changing the teaching to suit their requests and needs. This is imperative because this is the first year that the children will experience a learning environment and one that must prepare them for the next stage of their schooling, feeling happy, safe and self-assured that they are capable of anything they put their mind to.

All school work that will commence in year one is planned in line with the Primary National Curriculum and although they are some of the youngest children in the school and may not be as independent as older children, they must learn that they can be. All staff in year one will aim to equip your children with the skills and knowledge that puts no ceiling on their learning as they move up through the school.

Our main ethos in Year One is to create autonomous, kind, confident, collaborative and ambitious individuals with a positive determination to learn. This will be accomplished and we cannot wait to be onlookers to the successes your children will gain in the near future.
