Year 5

Year 51

Welcome to Year 5

Year 5 are taught by Miss Conroy, with the support of Mrs Leach. Our aim in Year 5 is to build upon the hard work from the children’s first 5 years at primary school, now beginning to encourage independence and responsibility ready for Year 6 and beyond.

The children will learn all of the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum subjects, retrieving previous learning and having their lessons adapted to make them accessible to all. Staff across the key stage will be investing in helping the children to make progress through supporting them with interventions and additional support if required.

Just like every other year group at Thorplands, we aim to help our children to become well rounded individuals. In Year 5, this will manifest itself in a range of sporting opportunities available to children; participation in the Royal Shakespeare Company project including performing at a theatre; Young Leader training; and trips such as to the Think Tank.

We will also place an emphasis on building relationships; we want the children to enjoy their time together, learning how to cooperate and build friendships that will last. It also goes without saying that we want the children to become confident learners who are able to attempt each activity that they are presented with to the best of their ability.
