Pre-School

Outdoor areaWelcome to Thorplands Preschool

Thorplands Preschool is an important part of our school and aims to provide a high quality learning environment that is accessible for all children so that they can learn to explore and become independent learners. Teaching and learning is our focus, which is underpinned by an uncompromising dedication to children’s well-being and safety. Our skilled and knowledgeable staff team welcome all children, and work in partnership with parents and professionals to ensure all children reach their potential. We have an Early Years Lead who works across both Preschool and Reception to support with transition and ensure that our children receive the highest standard of education and experiences from the onset.

Our preschool is open from 8.30am - 3pm Monday to Friday for 38 weeks a year. Children can start attending our Preschool in the term after their third birthday. All children are entitled to 15 hours free childcare and some will be entitled to 30 hours. Please visit https://www.gov.uk/30-hours-free-childcare for more information. Alongside this funding, we are able to offer a lunch club which runs from 11.30am until 12pm each day. This is charged at £2.50 per session.

Please feel free to make contact on 01604 493384 if you would like to come and take a look around. We recommend that you add your child’s name to the waiting list after they turn 2.

How can you help your child prepare for Preschool?

Teach your child to use the toilet independently. It does not matter if they have ‘accidents’, we ask that you provide a bag with a change of clothing so that we can keep your child clean and comfortable.

Teach your child to put their coat on and off and begin to do their zip up independently.

Help your child to recognise their name-turn it into a game!

Encourage your child to mark make, this can be colouring in, using chalk on pavements, drawing themselves and others, write a shopping list, painting the fence etc. The list is endless. Make it fun!
